Tensions Rising

Kayla Jones and her older sister Angelica both got their start in the so-called “sport of kings”, professional wrestling, around the same time in 2003, and yet it wasn’t until November of 2009 that they first teamed together as The Sisterhood.  It was then, in their debut match as a tag team, that they defeated Eric Sailes and Michael Wallace at the Motor City Wrestling pay per view Deliverance to become the MCW World Tag Team Champions.  The Sisterhood would rule the tag team division for five months until a neck injury sidelined Kayla Jones and forced The Sisterhood out of action.  Four years later, Angelica would convince Kayla to return to the ring for another tag team run, this time in Global Division of Wrestling, where The Sisterhood would defeat another sibling pair, Sophie and Mark O’Brian, to win the GDW World Tag Team Championship.  Two years later Angelica and Kayla would earn even more tag team success in yet another company, Global Championship Wrestling, defeating Seek and Destroy to become GCW Global Tag Team Champions.

Angelica and Kayla were really gelling as a tag team once again.  Victories continued to pile up until they reached what they saw as the pinnacle of their tag team success; the Supreme Championship Wrestling World Tag Team Championship.  Twice Angelica and Kayla won SCW tag team gold; the first time defeating Simon Lyman and Donovan Kayl, the second time defeating Shaun Cruze and AJ Helms.

Certainly Kayla and Angelica both would love to make a third run at the SCW World Tag Team Championship.  They have a good case to make; they are the former SCW World Tag Team Champions and they could argue that they are owed a rematch.  Although they could easily earn one in a number one contender’s match.  Either option would suit The Sisterhood just fine.

Unfortunately, that won’t be happening anytime soon.  Fatal Fortunes took that decision away from the Jones family when Angelica was drawn for a singles match and Kayla, in an ironic twist of fate, was drawn for a tag team contender’s match with Ravyn Taylor as her tag team partner.

This really was the last thing The Sisterhood needed, for tensions had already been building due to Angelica’s recent relationship with Aphrodite Noel, a woman whom Kayla did not trust and had no problem vocalizing her concerns about it.  This new twist, Kayla getting a new tag team partner to challenge for the tag team titles, just adds more layers to an already troubling situation for the sisters.

Kayla had hoped that Angelica would be ok with it. It isn’t as if Kayla wanted any of this.  She would much rather be challenging for the tag team titles with Angelica, but fate dealt Kayla these particular cards and she is a professional and so, with Ravyn as her tag team partner, she will challenge for the gold on Breakdown.

Angelica doesn’t see it that way and it was evident to those closest to her, her oldest daughter Marie and Angelica’s sister Kayla, based upon how cold Angelica acted backstage after the Fatal Fortunes edition of Breakdown had come to its conclusion.  Then Angelica left suddenly and separately, on her own, leaving Marie and Kayla in the dust.

Marie Annabelle Jones was noticeably concerned about her mother’s state of mind.  Kayla promised to find her and sort things out about their current situation…

The Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings, Montana may not be as impressive as Madison Square Garden, but it is certainly an adequate building to host the Supreme Championship Wrestling House Show one day after the Fatal Fortunes edition of Breakdown.  This is where we find Kayla Jones, standing in front of the entrance of the Auto Arena, wearing an off the shoulder floral print crop-top silhouette and a matching maxi-silhouette button front floral print skirt.  Her feet are encased in a pair of simple sandals.  The younger member of The Sisterhood waits here on Angelica Jones.  She was unable to find her last night but Angelica is scheduled to be here for the House Show, so Kayla figured she would find her here.

And if she arrived early enough to catch Angelica before too many other people got here to interrupt them.

Suddenly she perks up to attention as, off in the distance, she spots her oldest sister exiting a rental car.  Angelica Jones, dressed much simpler than her sister in a pair of denim jeans, flip flops, an “SCW” t-shirt, and her signature black leather jacket, approaches the entrance with a gym bag in hand.

Immediately Kayla rushes down the stairs in an attempt to confront her sister before she gets away…

“Angelica!”

Is Angelica ignoring Kayla or does she legitimately not hear her?  Either way, she continues walking as if she heard nothing.  Kayla picks up the pace and calls out again.

“Angelica!”

Angelica makes a sharp turn as if to get away from Kayla.  The younger sibling notices this.

“Damnit, Angelica, I know you can hear me!”

Finally Angelica stops walking and turns to face Kayla.

“What do you want, sis?”

“We need to talk.”

Angelica looks down at her wristwatch.

“Can’t it wait?  I am scheduled to appear tonight.”

Kayla rolls her eyes.

“Bullshit, Angelica.  The show doesn’t start for a few more hours.  You have time left and you damn well know it.  So stop making excuses.”

“Excuses for it?”

“Excuses for why you don’t want to talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about, Kay.  I really don’t know what you’re doing here badgering me like this.”

Kayla frowns.

“Look, Angelica, I think we all know what’s wrong.  Marie and I both were worried about you last night when you left the way you did…”

“You shouldn’t have worried.  I was fine.”

Kayla shakes her head.

“No, you weren’t.  You were not fine and it was painfully clear to anyone with eyes that you were upset about something and I think we all know what that something is.”

She reaches out and places a hand on Angelica’s shoulder.

“We need to quit ignoring the elephant in the room.”

Angelica sighs and nods her head.  Kayla is right, there’s no use denying it.  The recent development in the tag team title picture has taken its toll on the siblings.  Even though Angelica wants to deny it, she wants to deny it with all of her heart and soul, but she knows she cannot deny it.  It is true and she and Kayla must deal with this problem before it becomes too big of an issue.

“Fine, let’s talk.”

Kayla turns and motions for her sister to follow.  Angelica follows Kayla towards the steps that lead up to the entrance of the arena.  They sit down next to one another on the first step.  Kayla takes in a deep breath and sighs…

“I think we all know that this all boils down to the SCW World Tag Team Championship, right?”

“Does it?”

Angelica shrugs her shoulders.

“I’m not honestly sure that it does just boil down to the SCW World Tag Team Championship.  I mean, I admit that’s an issue I have right now, but there are other issues as well between the two of us, specifically one that you still haven’t managed to deal with.”

Kayla arches her brow out of curiosity.

“And what is that, pray tell?”

“Don’t play dumb, sis.  I know you don’t like Aphrodite.”

Aphrodite Noel, of course, is Angelica’s girlfriend.  Kayla rolls her eyes at this accusation.

“Don’t be ridiculous.  I already told you I was going to give the two of you a chance…”

“You say that and yet you have done nothing to prove it.  You avoid us when we’re together.”

Kayla’s eyes narrow as she responds rather sarcastically…

“I’m giving you two lovebirds your alone time.”

“See?  You’re not giving us a chance at all.  I’m beginning to wonder if you don’t approve of Aphrodite or if you just don’t approve of me sleeping with women in general.”

“Oh don’t you dare go trying to label me as homophobic.  You’ve slept with Brittany Lohan and Lindsey Carter and I never said a damn thing.  So don’t try to say I have something against your lifestyle, Angelica, because that would be low.”

Angelica nods her head.

“Fine, I’m sorry, but you say there’s something wrong with you and I and you’re getting ready to pin it on me taking issue with your tag team title match.  And the thing is, I admit that I do take issue with you teaming with Ravyn to get a tag title match without me…”

She pokes Kayla in the chest.

“…but you won’t own up to taking issue with my relationship with Aphrodite.”

Kayla nods her head.

“Yes, I do have an issue with Aphrodite, but my issue with her is because I don’t trust her.  I worry that she’s going to hurt you.  But you’re not happy for me getting a shot at the tag team titles and why is that?  Because you selfishly want in on it too?”

Angelica shakes her head.

“It isn’t like that.”

“Then tell me how it is.  Tell me what problem you have with me teaming with Ravyn.”

“Kayla I…”

Angelica sighs out of frustration and stands up.

“…actually, never mind!  This is pointless!”

“Angelica, wait!”

Kayla shoots up as Angelica starts to walk up the steps.  Kayla follows her in a hurry.

“Don’t walk away from me!”

At the top of the steps Kayla steps in front of her older sister, blocking her path.

“We’re not done.  We’re going to settle this.”

“Why?  What’s the point?  You’re going to get your tag team title match.  Why don’t you focus on that?  God knows you and Ravyn will need to somehow get on the same page for that.  You shouldn’t be wasting your time with me.”

Kayla takes her sister’s hands and squeezes them tightly.

“Maybe it’s because I hate seeing us like this?  Maybe it’s because I want to fix things?”

Angelica shakes her head.

“You can’t fix this, Kay.”

“You won’t even let me try.  You won’t tell me what’s wrong.”

Angelica pulls her hands away from Kayla’s grip and then drops her gym bag on the top step.  Angelica throws her hands up in the air out of frustration.

“Fine, you want me to tell you what’s on my mind?  I’ll tell you.”

Kayla places her hands on her hips and waits patiently.  Angelica sighs…

“Kayla, this is just…it’s just unfair…”

“What’s unfair?”

“Everything!  We bust our asses to redeem our  image in the eyes of the SCW universe and yet Shaun Cruze has the nerve to judge us, when everyone knows that he is no saint himself.  And the painful irony of losing our tag team titles back to him and AJ Helms.  That’s not fair.”

Kayla nods her head.

“I can see your point, but we accepted it and we congratulated Honor Code and we moved on, with the understanding that we would get another shot at the gold someday.”

“Exactly…”

Angelica motions to herself and Kayla.

“…WE would get another shot, as in The Sisterhood.  But now, thanks to Fatal Fortunes, The Sisterhood may not get a tag title match in a long time.”

Kayla sighs.

“Angelica, listen…”

“No, Kay, you listen.  Angelica is your tag team partner.  Not me. You two are going to be a formidable team simply because you are both tag team specialists.  If anyone can take those belts off of Honor Code it would be you two.  In fact, I’d say that smart money is on you two becoming new SCW World Tag Team Champions.  And that means The Sisterhood is on the shelf for a very long time.”

Angelica shakes her head.

“I don’t foresee you and Ravyn losing the titles.”

Kayla pauses for a moment to take in everything that her older sister just said.  The emotional outpouring did strike a nerve.  Finally Kayla nods her head.

“I get it, Angelica, I really do, but you’re operating under the assumption that Ravyn and I are going to win.  That’s not a guarantee.  Shaun and AJ have had time to develop real tag team chemistry and a true bond with one another.  Now I ask you, do you think I can trust Ravyn, knowing her history?”

She chuckles.

“And I’m fairly certain Ravyn feels the same way about me, considering the last time she and I shared the ring together…before Fatal Fortunes, that is…I was kicking her teeth down her throat in an attempt to become United States Champion.”

Kayla shakes her head.

“I don’t really care what smart money says, Honor Code are the favorites in my mind and Ravyn and I are the underdogs because we have a hell of a lot of issues to deal with as a team before we would even have a chance at beating them for the titles.  So trust me, it isn’t some forgone conclusion that Ravyn and I can win this.”

“I don’t care, sis.  It still bothers me.”

Kayla reaches out and places a comforting hand on her shoulder.

“Then I’ll tell you what, give me the word and I’ll call Mr. D and ask him to find Ravyn a new tag team partner.”

Angelica’s eyes grow wide with surprise.  She wasn’t expecting this offer from her younger sister.

“Kayla, I…”

“I mean it.  I will give up the tag title shot if that’ll make you feel better.  I care about you.”

Angelica shakes her head.

“No…don’t you dare give up that tag title shot on my account.”

“But…”

“I mean it, Kay.  Do not forfeit.  Keep the title shot and win those belts.  I know how badly you want those belts back.  I want them just as bad.  I’m not about to stop you from possibly winning the tag titles…even if it is with someone else as your tag team partner.”

Kayla grins at the thoughtfulness of her older sister.

“Thanks, Angel, that means a lot to me hearing you say that.  And I promise you, win or lose on Breakdown, there will be another day for The Sisterhood.  We will be three time SCW World Tag Team Champions.  The Sisterhood is not dead yet.”

Angelica sighs.

“Well we disagree on that…”

Kayla is struck curiously by that remark.

“Huh?  What do you mean?”

“You said The Sisterhood is not dead yet.  I’m not convinced.”

Angelica walks past Kayla and towards the entrance.  Kayla chooses not to give chase this time.  Perhaps Angelica just needs time to compose herself, time to think?  Either way, Kayla does not like the way this ended.  Not one bit.  But she cannot continue to focus on this for too long.  Whether she likes it or not, she has to team with Ravyn Taylor and together they will challenge Honor Code for the SCW World Tag Team Championship.

There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.

That is a famous line from the Terminator film series.  This line is so appropriate right now, because fate has certainly been playing its games with me.  I mean, it is no secret that Angelica and I want to become three time SCW World Tag Team Champions.  It is no secret that there is unfinished business between The Honor Code and The Sisterhood.  And it is no secret that I would love to finish that business once and for all with a celebration, standing side by side with my sister Angelica Jones, after we’ve defeated Cruze and Helms for our third SCW World Tag Team Championship.

But that isn’t what fate had in store for me.  I will receive a shot at the SCW World Tag Team Championship on Breakdown from Louisville, Kentucky.  Oh but it won’t be Angelica.  It won’t be as a member of The Sisterhood.

Fate, via Fatal Fortunes, determined that my tag team partner would be Ravyn Taylor.

You know, Ravyn is absolutely right in her assessment of the situation.  It does take a long time to build up good tag team chemistry and it does take a long time to build up trust between tag team partners.  The chemistry is one thing but the trust factor?  Well I won’t comment on Ravyn’s history, but suffice it to say that the last time we shared a ring together before Fatal Fortunes was in January of 2016…

…remember that, Ravyn?  I was challenging you for the United States Championship.  I kicked your head off your shoulders a few times in the lead up to that match.  But you had the last laugh.  You beat me at Violence in Vegas to retain the SCW United States Title.

I also can’t blame her for not wanting to team with me.  Honestly, I would much rather be teaming with my sister.  I love my sister a great deal, we’ve been through a lot together, and there is nothing more I would want than to win my third SCW World Tag Team Championship with her.

Unfortunately I have to play the hand that I was dealt and Ravyn, you’re going to have learn to do the same thing.  Play the hand that you’re dealt, because while fate may have dealt us this hand, while fate may have put us in this situation, we can still make the best out of it, and together we can become champions.

So many people, from fans to our wrestling peers, think that you and I are the favorites just because we’re tag team specialists.  But I respectfully disagree.  Shaun Cruze and AJ Helms have the experience.  Shaun Cruze and AJ Helms have the chemistry and the trust.  There is only one thing that Honor Code has going against them right now...a controversy surrounding Shaun Cruze and Taylor Chase…

…as a former victim and witness of such violence myself, I have very strong feelings about what happened.  It happened to me and I damn sure cannot stand seeing it happen to anyone else.  Cruze, I will see you in the ring and when I do, I will kick your teeth right down your throat.  But professionally speaking, that whole situation is going to an Achilles Heel for you and AJ, because that is the topic of the day.  That is on everyone’s mind and no doubt it will be on your mind, serving as a distraction, leading up to Breakdown.

Can you put it out of your head long enough to defend those belts against Ravyn and I?  Who knows?   But if not, your tag title reign is in serious jeopardy.

AJ, this is the fourth time you boys and yours truly will climb into that squared circle to face off.  The only difference is I’m trading out Angelica for Ravyn.  We’ve fought one another enough by now that we know each other quite well, AJ.  And as much as I respect you, I also want those tag team titles back.  And I don’t think I have to remind you what I’m willing to sacrifice in that ring in order to achieve victory.

Putting the distraction aside and putting my professional rivalry with Honor Code to the side, let’s face facts…Honor Code currently is the best tag team in Supreme Championship Wrestling.  They’re good as a unit and they are good individually.

Ravyn, you and I are good individually.  We’re also good tag team wrestlers.  But just because we’re both good tag team wrestlers doesn’t mean a damn thing if we can’t get it together ourselves.  Now I can’t speak for you, Ravyn, but one thing I do have going for me is that I really can work anyone.

Fate is not my master and I have proven that time and time again.  Whether it be by random luck of the draw or otherwise, I have won eight World Tag Team Championships in my career in various companies with five different tag team partners.

And by the way, two of those five individuals I won tag gold with were people who hated my guts.

So can I make this work?  You damn right I can.  The ball is in your court, Ravyn.  If you’re willing to work with me, then I can work with you, and together we will defeat Honor Code and we will become SCW World Tag Team Champions and hell, maybe the experts will be right?  Maybe we can become one of the greatest pairings of all time…

…or we’ll crash and burn, we fall flat on our faces…

…we were paired together by fate, but the fate of our tag team is now dependent on us.  There is no fate but what we make for ourselves and the fate of our tag team will be decided by you and I, Ravyn, and I know that if we work together, if we can get along, then we will kick their teeth right down their throats and take home the SCW World Tag Team Championship.
